I checked with the same little place that Buck and I did our *amazing* matching tree painting a couple Valentine's Days ago. They had an open paint session on Buck's birthday for which birthday groups were welcome. The age range was youth--that was good! We could bring food and dessert, that was really good! And the cost was like 60% less than booking a private party, that was great!

The canvases the girls ended up with were a bit more dainty than I expected/understood--but Buck pointed out that people have only so many walls in their homes, and no one wants giant paintings. He makes me feel better :) He was right too, the small canvases turned out really cute! I thought there was no way we'd fill two hours, and I'd be calling moms to pick up daughters early--but with another birthday there doing two different paintings, and breaks for lunch and cupcakes and gift opening, the timing worked out perfectly.
Speaking of cupcakes--how cute are these that Gabby made and decorated?!

One of the girls' favorite activities of the painting party was the *field trip!* We were blessed with beautiful weather the day of Gabby's party, so when the painting instructor invited all the girls outside--they were more than happy to comply!
The idea was, there was a thin paint wash that would wash off the sidewalk, but would not wash as easily off the painting studio's floors. The girls were to dip their fingers in the wash and then flick *fireflies* onto their paintings.
Gabby's newest friend from the little church youth group is kind of hilarious without even meaning to be. She's artistic--actually all of the girls were artistic, which made for a really fun party--and a little bit accident-prone. She's has the kind of enthusiasm for life that when told to do a little--she accidentally does A LOT! Such was the case with her fireflies; a smidge too much of the wash dip."Don't worry! You can't mess up flicking!" encouraged the paint teacher and other girls.
To which M replied (staring in disbelief at her painting), "I literally messed up flicking." She's the laughing blonde in the picture above--that girl cracks me up :)
All of the girls we invited are homeschooled and all of them know who Bob Ross is :) So throughout the painting class, they talked about their "happy little accidents" as their artwork progressed. They also decided they'd start their own painting business, much like the one they were enjoying at the present time. They'd call it "Five Girls"--like the restaurant "Five Guys," except it wouldn't be restaurant :) Oh, and that's probably trademarked anyway, so they'd have to come up with a new name and catch phrase, because Bob Ross is probably ALSO trademarked, so how about, "Exuberant little mess ups?!" Works for me :)

A Kidzbop radio station or c.d. was on the stereo system. As each new (old) song would come on, the girls (not so much ours) would reflect on when they used to *luv* this song! When the "Party in the U.S.A." hit the sound waves, the red-headed girlie said with a sigh, "This song makes me feel so old." Yeah. She's in seventh grade. Lol!!
The final firefly projects turned out very cute and each so individual! Not so individual--the painters' choice of footwear. The painting teacher asked at the end, "Did you girls all plan to wear the same shoes?" Three out of five had on the same pair and nobody had noticed, too funny!
I think everyone (myself included) had fun at Gabby's 14th birthday painting party! She opened some very nice gifts (although she had to wait to go to M's party the next day to get that one; both M and her mom left the house without it, thinking the other had grabbed the bag--and did you see all that green paint for finger-painting time? M got so much that she had to share with Gabby; more is not less, just normal with that one :)
