On the start of day 10, our crew offered to make a
traditional family breakfast—blina! Brennen was sizzling sausage, Caelan was
cracking eggs and blending blina mix, Buck had FOUR pans (three pictured until the hashbrowns were done) going at the same
time, and Gabby was busy transferring cooked food into the warming oven. It was
enough blina to feed a small army, and my only job was to give blina-eating
tutorials to our friends. Everyone approved! I’m thinking a six-burner gas oven
with invisible hood and mountain-range view would be perfect for our backyard,
I mean kitchen. Kitchen and backyard.
After several days full of driving, we all decided to stick
close to town. Breakfast complete, everyone left in their separate vehicles,
parked where they would, and ended up bumping into each other anyway on the
sidewalks and shops of Jackson Hole. You know, like we all lived there, ha! We,
of course, took the obligatory elk antler arch photos, collected post cards,
perused overpriced items we’d never be willing to buy, and managed to find a
few great deals on end-of-summer closeouts.
When lunch rolled around, we started checking out the menus
posted around town. One of the few types of food we hadn’t yet eaten was BBQ.
Guess who we saw through the windows of the tiny BBQ shop? Yes, the rest of our
group—who also thought BBQ sounded good. We found out this restaurant was
partnered with our pizza place of the night before. As a result, the food was good!
Caelan was the only one who hadn’t secured her vacation
souvenir. Gabby got a Bear Country U.S.A. hoodie (maybe you’ve noticed it in
our pictures :), Brennen chose a pressed penny book and a Jackson Hole hat,
Graysen picked a bear-shaped slingshot and a national park quarters collector
book. Buck bought me a necklace and matching earrings and a copper-colored
bracelet with a deer head impression repeating around the band. For himself,
Buck began collecting park medallions for his walking stick, but I think I
mention that in a future post. Anyway, we looked through lots of jewelry stores
for exactly what Caelan wanted—a dainty turquoise necklace with a pendant to
match the bracelet her grandpa gave her a couple years ago. Somewhere down a
side street, Buck spotted a shop next to a book store and we meandered inside.
The first necklace we saw--$1,100 gasp! Gabby spotted an alternative option for
under $20. It was not only a sterling silver chain, but the turquoise pendant
was really turquoise (only powdered turquoise reformed with a hard resin). Happy
with her purchase, we headed back to the van. But, Buck needed a cup of coffee,
so we stopped into a world famous chocolate shop called Coco Love . . . but
only bought coffee :)
Back at the house, we watched the rain hit the mountains, we
took naps, I held the baby to sleep (twice!), and the girls baked chocolate
chip cookies. Jenn was in charge of dinner (spaghetti) and had plenty of help.
It was nice to relax a little, enjoy the day after all the busyness of the past
week. Aren't the "stop" signs in the neighborhood cute? Lots of horses, so "whoa" instead :)

After dinner, the younger set learned to play Farkle with our hosts’
crew. They laughed and laughed, as they played their game. Another late night,
but more fun plans in the works for the following day.
