These are the baby chickens! We were surprised to see they were almost full chicken size when we returned from vacation. It was time to move them into the general population, but as usual the big chickens were big jerks. So, we sequestered the big chickens in with the water and nesting boxes, and let the babies explore the big coop for 24 hours on their own. So far, things seem to be going well in the mixed population. Yay!
Father's Day! Gabby made blina (got to put those chicken eggs to good use :) So yummy! Buck got to go into work a little bit late, so he opened his gifts from the kids--a free-standing hammock and sugar/cinnamon roasted almonds, and watched my nephew graduate high school. Whoohoo! Go, C!
Although he wasn't home, Graysen prepared Buck's Father's Day supper. We're trying something new, the kids each take a day of the week and plan a low sodium, low cholesterol, heart healthy meal for dinner. They find the recipes, submit their ingredient lists when I'm grocery planning, and then boom--food! The first week was delicious x 4! They all did an excellent job :)
We were so excited to cheer C on via the social distancing approved television broadcast . . . never been to a graduation ceremony in my pajamas before :)
Gabby (with my help and some from Graysen) finished another 40 masks. We're for sure over 200 now! This time we tried making child-sized masks, because some of the Guatemalan moms at the clinic where we are donating the masks are 90 lbs full term pregnant--itty bitty!
Graysen ran in yesterday yelling, "Mom, you have to come outside right now!!" He was mowing and spotted this nest of bunnies next to our window well (far from the path of the lawnmower, thank goodness!) Buck, of course, wanted to keep all half dozen of them. I said, "Let's give the mama a day to move them or feed them or whatever she needs to do with them." :) Buck wore gloves to cover up what the wind blew away of the bunnies' nest. Today, the bunnies are still there . . . but I think their mom is still hanging out, so we're going to let nature continue.
Youth group, outdoors! Caelan and Brennen led music, which was pretty cool :)
We had an opportunity to help a family at church by loading up a Uhaul twice, both times FULL of donations! Top to bottom, front to back, donated to two different non-profits in town. I took a Caddy-load of volunteers (our kids, and my NGF's) behind the Uhaul to help the folks at Goodwill and the Habitat for Humanity drop off spot. All those black bags are full of clothing! I told the three outside to flex their muscles, ha!
Somehow, they managed to fill 17 of these giant pallet boxes in just 25 minutes. I think the Goodwill people weren't even sure what to do with that kind of impressive effort ;) We went back to the house to reload furniture. Inside, the kids got pizza and pop--much needed after a hot morning (90 degrees) working. They also half-emptied the attic (190 degrees :) The couple who lived in this house had been there since 1986 and had collected and sold antiques; it was packed from attic to basement and it was a big house. Other helpers had been boxing and bagging for weeks, we just helped get a couple of loads moved. What a big job! Our kids found a few treasures, and had a great time working with their friends. We didn't even know they would be there, so that was bonus awesome :)
The Caddy has been called into action, because Caelan hit the auto-down button on the driver's side window to say something to me as we were leaving karate--and it disappeared. Just dropped away into nothingness . . . $400 later, it's fixed and we pick it up tomorrow. Ouch!
