More Things

Buck brought this elk head home from Colorado, probably five or six years ago. We've been chasing it around various spaces trying to decide where to put it. Buck stained the antlers, painted the skull, and still it sat--taking up a huge amount of space in the garage. I was always worried it would get accidentally damaged. This week, when Brennen and Caelan moved all of the garage sale stuff out of the garage and into the Escalade (our new holding place for garage sale goods) . . . the elk head remained. Brennen decided it was time to find a safe place for it.

Taadaa! There were some leather shoelaces in a shoe care kit we rescued from that house we helped clean out for our friends at church. Buck and Brennen rigged them up to a board in the laundry room and tied the incredibly heavy elk head in place. Buck is letting the leather stretch and settle before trimming the ends.

This is Chauncey's new bed (Muriel chewed the old one and it also got puked on while the puked-on cover was being washed--trash time). We moved Muriel's kennel to the place next to the couch where Chauncey's bed has been for years. She seems MUCH happier and less stressed in this location! She can look out the window, watch the door, and is surrounded on three sides by walls. She hasn't spent much time in the kennel since we moved it, but we aren't noticing major drool puddles or pulled fur from escape attempts. Yay! 

Chauncey is super confused though. We say, "Go lay down," or "Go to your bed," and he walks toward the corner then turns around and gives up. His new bed is now under the elk skull (also nice padding in case the leather straps don't hold). Don't worry--it's like the location of shame, Chauncey won't lay on his bed in that space, so the elk head has a very small chance of falling on him if it ever should. All these dogs, I tell you what :)

Buck recognized that this has been a stressful week for me. Lots of appointments, responsibilities, and preparations for fall. He brought me these beautiful roses, in almost fall colors, that look so pretty on the table. Yay, flowers! Yay, husband!
