Since I've mentioned football a couple of times in recent posts, it seems like that's a next good story in the lineup :) As you remember, the boys began their season on a tackle football team with public school teenagers and their friend Caedmon. It didn't take too long (about three weeks) for them to realize that 30 hours of football, five days a week, plus (for Brennen) 30+ hours of work left little time for friends, volunteering at church, classes, or hanging out with their sisters and bros. It wasn't an easy decision, but I think it was the right one.
As if to confirm their athletic choice, Brennen found an envelope on his windshield at work with registration papers for their flag football team inside (from a teammate and friend). I messaged the board of directors and the boys received unanimous acceptance to start the season late. So, this year we get two sets of football pictures :)
Brennen is a senior, so he got to take extra pics with the other seniors--well, most of them. The sideways guy is going to super-senior. He's the one who left Brennen the note (he also works for my sister-in-law's parents at their shop :) And Caedmon decided, after the tackle coaches snubbed him nearly two years of playing time, that he, too, would rejoin the flag football team (but it was after team photos).
I think some of that information wasn't new, now that I'm looking at where the next set of photos start :) The boys had a tournament in the far-away town, which meant we had to get up super early to make the drive. It drizzled a little but wasn't terrible weather. The moms on the home team did a smashing job of preparing a meal tent for the visiting players and their families. I was very impressed! Buck had the day off, so he got to attend the tournament and did a little sideline coaching for our lineman :) The boys won their first game but lost their second (their first loss of the season). We headed home for our NGFs' son's graduation party, so they still had some fun to look forward to!
Let's see, okay, so this was Varsity, staring straight into the sun and surrounded by swarms of tiny pirate bugs! I started the game helping some newbies take stats. Buck got permission to leave work early so he could watch the boys play. He ended up helping me with stats, so the others could sit and watch the game. He likes to be on the move anyway :) Brennen had a few flag pulls and an interception but was a bit frustrated that the QB only throws to the other side. G$ got out on special teams; he's in a weird place where he's the back-up QB for the temporarily starting QB who was filling in for the injured QB, who might be injured again? So, he's playing offense and defense on both JV and Varsity--but not playing as much as he did last year at JV QB (which he didn't like the pressure of, so it's kind of okay). Varsity got their first win, so that was fun :)
The very next day was Buck's actual day off, and wouldn't you know it, another football game! This one was JV and took place directly before the homeschool homecoming dance. The original plan was for all the strictly Varsity players to dress up in their homecoming clothes to cheer on their younger teammates. Well, it was nearly 100 degrees that day (and most of the days lately--so much for Fall!), so regular uniforms appeared instead. Brennen did run to his car to change right before the end of the game--during which Graysen went in as QB and threw a touchdown--first pass :) They won! I thought I'd get a picture of Brennen and his friends before they left, but apparently when they went through the line to give high-fives . . . he just kept right on going across to the parking lot and got in his car to drive to the dance. Oh well, maybe someone got a picture of him later that I'll get to treasure forever :)
They've got a two-week break from games--just practices--then they'll be back for Senior Night under the Lights! By that time, Grandma J will here because the wedding is just one week later. Oh my stars, how time is flying towards that day!
