This morning began with a text from Gabby saying she was going to get gas and then some fancy toppings for the waffles she planned to make us all for breakfast. Woohoo! Her waffle bar offerings were very fancy indeed . . .
One nice thing about being at home for vacation is that I can easily keep the blog up-to-date, no trying to remember a series of events a week later! So, while I do this, the girls are out shopping for a variety of items for their rooms and for school (which starts in two weeks!) They are going to meet us at our next venue, and because guitar lessons got cancelled (see, constant flux) due to a COVID exposure for their teacher's family, we can add in another bonus activity from the list of Staycation Fun :)
First up . . . Beyond Van Gogh! I've wanted to see this exhibit for more than a year and have kept an eye on "coming soon near you" messages. It was different than I expected. I thought we would move around to several rooms each with a different painting displayed, but we stayed in one room and the paintings moved around us. The whole thing lasted about an hour and was really beautiful! Caelan and I could have watched it all the way through twice, but the others were ready to roll (literally ;)
The kids were excited to learn that, with G$ having reached the ripe old age of 14, they are all old enough to officially drive go karts! The fast ones! :) So we rolled over to the go kart location, because we are well-rounded--we had fine art and classical music, now it was time for sweaty temperatures, squealing tires, and the smell of gasoline and rubber, ha! They loved it, and it was fun to watch them fly around the curves with big grins on their faces.
Of course, after racing we were feeling kinda hungry, since we hadn't eaten since Gabby's waffles. Graysen had been hoping to go to our fav local wings place, and it just happened to be not too far away. We got a free appetizer because the waiter forgot to submit it with our order. Wings and fries and wraps and cheese curds, yum!
Next on the Staycation to do list . . . errands! The dryer vent popped off in a shower of dust and debris, yet again. We went to the hardware store to find better options for securing it. Buck and G$ spent more than an hour trying to rig it back up. It seems to be holding, but the condensation droplets are still drippy-ploppy in size. Maybe it will be better in the winter, when the heater is on instead of the cooler :)
The boys were late for the youth group swim party, so they headed out the door as soon as the repairs were complete. Gabby went to our NGFs' house for sushi and a movie with her CO friend who is visiting them this week. Caelan decided to stay home and hang out with her super cool parents. When the boys decided to get ice cream after youth group, Buck sent Caelan to pick some up for him, too :) After all, what's a vacation without ice cream?
