Let's begin with the animals! Before we left, we gifted our Guinea pigs to our new, good friends. They have already welcomed three baby GPs into their world--bringing their total quite suddenly to eight! The verdict is still out on whether one of ours was the dad, but we're planning to see them at their week-old stage on Sunday. If you remember, Graysen said he was okay with the GPs relocating if he could get a new hamster for his room? We wasted no time in making that happen upon return from the west coast, but we've been a little slow in getting photograph of the HUGE little guy :) Meet: Tum Tum, the Fancy Bear Hamster.
We are currently in the midst of a weather warm up--so promised, and half believed, because spring is right around the corner. I decided it would be fun to get some pictures to remember the snow fall amounts, which are greater than any we've seen here in winters past. This also included a trip to see my funny chickens. They all lined up on their pallet perch and looked at me--well, all but one who couldn't fit. She's on the ground behind the pallet :) They don't like to touch the snow, so when the first round of melting had ensued, we dug out the coop as best we could, completely scoured the insides with hoes and shovels and a pitchfork. Meanwhile, the birds played in the hay bin and were thrilled to find a patch of accessible, unfrozen dirt where they could take a much-longed for round of dust baths. Their coop looks pretty spiffy with its new flooring of wood chips and nests filled with decorative hay that was super cheap on mega-clearance at the décor store :)
And . . . we have baby chickens! I was planning to wait until it warmed up a bit, but Buck was ready for the sounds of spring to be in our house once more. I'll tell that story in the next post, but here are our little chirping cuties . . . two Speckled Sussex named Sparrow and Wren (because of their yellowy-brown coloring) and two Sapphire Gems named Charcoal (for her dark face) and Charmin (because the "My Hiney's Clean!! song cracks me up EVERYTIME, and hers absolutely isn't--girl needs some Charmin, lol :) They are gray little puffballs and growing like crazy after only a few days. We'll go back to the store when the Barred Rock shipment comes in next week to get a couple more baby birds. Yay, chickens!!
They are living in the former Guinea pig high-rise, next to our annoyed dog, lol :) It's not quite warm enough for them with the just the heat lamp, so they have my heat dish too--HUGE sacrifice for me, I am constantly freezing downstairs. Buck got me a heating pad so I could read on the couch (in my hoodie, quilted vest, his fleece jacket, and a giant blanket :)
