Final Fixes

I realize that the mundane aspects of prepping a house for company are perhaps not all that interesting. However, it is amazing how things that are small irritations grow in scope as big events draw nearer. Like that brown spot on our kitchen ceiling. We've made half-hearted attempts to cover it up several times over the years. It doesn't really grow, it just stares at us with an ugly smirk. Well, Buck is giving it the old knock-out punch this time! (we hope) He scraped it, patched it, gooped it, scraped it again, and then sprayed texture over the top that we think will match the "custom" putty design the builder installed. Nothing matches it. But we're trying!

The siding is fixed, woot!

The seeds I planted are growing--I think they are morning glories, but it looks like it will take a while for them to prove me correct :)

Buck had a nasty root canal a few days ago. It's a tooth that has bothered him for more than a year. He told our dentist, "Find the problem this time or I am yanking it out in my garage when I get home." She found a crack. Before Hawaii, the dentist attempted to fill the crack. It didn't help with the pain. So we called again when we got back. She wasn't there, so Buck had to see another dentist to get a referral for an endodontist (Buck was very annoyed by this). He got the referral after the other dentist said, "Yup, tooth is still cracked," on a Friday. He waited til Monday and called for a root canal. They said he probably needed a consultation with them too, and if they could get that scheduled in the next week, the procedure would be three weeks out and they could schedule him--the day before the wedding. Umm, no.

So Buck pushed a little and amazingly they found an opening! We drove over on his day off, and sat in the waiting room for awhile. Finally, they called him back to surgery. I sat in the waiting room a little longer, and a little longer, and a lot longer. At the two-hour mark (google said this whole shabang usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes), I asked the very busy lady at the desk if she could maybe find out what was going on; she was a bit surprised at how much time had passed. Knowing Buck and his surgeries, something was out of the ordinary.

About 15 minutes later (about the time frame the desk lady said was left, upon checking), Buck came out cringing and mouthed, "Let's get out of here." Apparently it was the most painful dental surgery he's ever had. His "very angry" tooth as the endodontist described it, had at least five roots running into it. The doctor found four. Despite at least 7 shots in his gums and as many into the tooth itself, the fifth root remained elusive and Buck could feel it every time the doctor came into contact with it. The doctor felt terrible. He recognized that this was an awful surgery for Buck, but the only other option was putting him under completely. Buck has had so much anesthesia over the years, I'm not sure that was a great idea.

Still "numb," Buck and I stopped at Trader Joes to pick up a bunch of wedding and company food things, then smoothies (because we thought it would help Buck's mouth), and then we headed home. His big project for the day was to burn the brush on the hill. Which he did. He also singed his hair in the fire and melted a large section of it in to clumps . . . he got most of those out during his shower. He said, "Caelan, I almost provided you with one of those funny wedding stories . . . when the bride's dad caught his hair on fire the week before the wedding." It looks fine though :)

The tooth . . . still not fine. It has been bothering him to no end. His doctor has been very attentive, because, again, the guy feels terrible--Buck feels worse for that guy than he does for himself :) Yesterday, the doctor called in a steroid pack to try to shock the nerves into relaxing. So, of course Buck didn't sleep last night. BUT today is his last day of work before having the next week off for the wedding! Yay, wedding week :)

Here's a peaceful picture to conclude today's reading experience . . . a deer and a bunny, enjoying our temporarily dog-free acre. Can you spot them both? :)

Oops! Guess I forgot to post this one . . . a lot has happened in a week--hold on to your hats!

Colorado

We took the world's fastest--and slowest--trip to Colorado for Buck's stepmom's memorial service. I say fastest, because it took...
