Getting Rit of It

Yes, this lovely white gown . . . we searched and searched for a floor-length dress for choir. Finally, this pure white silk/polyester dress appeared on the clearance rack for $20. I decided we could depend on good old-fashioned Rit to make it work. Step . . .

1. Try on dress in it's original form



2. Mix dye in hot water



3. Get sister to assist



4. Watch white dress bubble into the bucket of inky blackness, add second packet of dye, mix for 30 minutes



5. Wonder how to get purple-blue stains out of the sink after rinsing the dress in progressively cooler water




6. Pull dress from delicates wash to remove any remaining loose dye and analyze the results . . . well, the silk shrank about six inches, but it also turned the desired color. The polyester underlay is a silvery gray, which is nice. With a few modifications (it's too long anyway) we should be able to alter the hemline, match it with the silk, and hopefully have a complete dress. First try! :)
