For the 80's, just in case they come back . . . :) After scouring several stores and ordering cables online twice, Buck finally got his Christmas Sega up and running. The boys are quite enchanted with this example of the pixelly history of video gaming. I have no idea how to hook the complex arrangement up to make the graphics appear on the screen, so the boys can't play (the preapproved list of available games) until Buck gives us all a tutorial.
For football history pop quizzes . . . Buck receives football cards in his stocking every Christmas. He has a collection of cards that he's built over the years, but he really hasn't done anything with them in a looooooong time. On a lazy winter day, why not pop them out and sort through them with the kids? This kept everyone busy and working together for several hours. I'm sure the kids are much better prepared to answer questions about football history now, having read so many statistics, names, numbers, and team line-ups from the fun paper cards.
For extensive dental work . . . Although Buck's second--well, I guess third if you count the initial dentist visit and the oral surgeon consultation--round of tooth care went really well (the root came out easily, no anesthesia, and the graft/membrane is set and stitched in to fuse to his jawbone), he still needed to rest (in my opinion :) so card-sorting was a good way to spend a chill day. Three months from now, he can start looking at setting the titanium post, and after that heals, eventually getting a crown put on the post . . . even with insurance, whoa baby! Teethies are expensive. I might add "dentist" to my wish list of our collective children's future careers or future spouses' careers :) [Sorry, no picture, you can use your own dental experience mental images to fill in the blanks :)]
