Projects

The Crew has requested that I take time today to update the blog. I got caught up on hours of schoolwork filing and grading yesterday and hours of Christmas gift wrapping last night, all the packages that need to be mailed are . . . we've wrapped up youth group, small group, choir, karate (except for Caelan working), and guitar/piano until "next year." Two whole weeks away :) Buck is recovering from surgery this morning, and has two more appointments set up to get his leave extended through next month (those are tomorrow and the next day). It's been a whirlwind few weeks, but I'll do my best to catch up. I'm going to start easy, though, by highlighting a few projects the kids have been working on. Caelan, of course, is busy knitting. Her new request this year was washcloths. The cotton yarn is a bit more expensive, and the tiny stitch takes a bit longer than she's used to for completion, so we're not sure how profitable they are at her current pricing (we did an internet search for similar items as a guesstimate). However, they are very cute, and she's had orders for seven sets so far!



Another huge project the girls finished up--our neighbor's baby quilt. They started the process by actually meeting our neighbor at the fabric store, selecting the fabrics, and then figuring out how to sew that tricky triangle tip. Gabby came up with an origami fold that took some extra pinning and time, but greatly reduced the scrunching along those seams. Our neighbor loves the finished product! So custom baby quilt number one is in the books :) Oh, and Gabby also helped me with a bunch of the sewing on a baby quilt for Buck's sister (I don't think she checks the blog). I decided to send it in their Christmas box, even though it's a few months early. It's one of my favorites! I love the soft colors and the fabric patterns. Too cute!






















I should also mention that we 
wrapped up school for the month last week, as well. There is too much to do to do quality educating :) With knitting and sewing projects, baking projects, performances, karate testing, shopping, gift wrapping and all the rest we have going--I think they're getting a whole lot of time management and life learning this month anyway :) But the boys' final Kid Coder project was to program a short clip (remember the girls did a forest and a flower a couple years back?). I think both projects turned out cute, so I thought I'd share them on here. (Plus the uploading gives me time to catch up on the pictures I need to sort and file :)
